With the WMS data I plan to explore whether better- or worse-managed hospitals perform differently with respect to: (i) the level of insurance against emergency admission shocks; (ii) the use of cancellations to absorb demand shocks; (iii) the use of reductions in length of stay to absorb demand shocks; (iv) the impact of demand shocks on quality of care.
